How to Polish & Clean Tranished Metals

A Tarnish is a thin layer of corrosion that forms over copper, brass, aluminum, etc. Due to certain environmental conditions, they develop a kind of buildup known as tarnish. Here are some DIY to get the original metal back

Don’t let those beautiful metal artifacts tarnish. Our tips will ensure that your silver is always gleaming.

1.SILVER

Start by rinsing all metals in a mixture of dish-washing liquid and hot water. You can do this in your kitchen sink. To polish, you can either use one of the specific silverware polishes in the market, or a dab of toothpaste. Just cover your hand with an old sock, and rub the polish/toothpaste all over. Don’t use hard strokes as silver is a soft metal. Use a soft toothbrush to get into those nooks and crevices.

2.COPPER

Copper utensils tarnish easily but can be cleaned quickly with a few drops of lemon juice. However, lemon brings out the orange in the copper and must be used sparingly and only in the case of an emergency. when you have more time, use the specified copper cleaner in the market with a rough cloth and some water. This requires time and elbow grease.

3.BRASS

If you don’t have the ubiquitous brass polish, then use Tabasco, Ketchup, or Worcestershire sauce to clean it. Keep it on for some time (so that the acids in the sauce remove the stains), and scrub well with a soft toothbrush.

4.PEWTER

You can clean this metal with silver polish, or even rubbing alcohol. But avoid serving acidic foods in pewter as this is thin metal, and the acids will just eat into the surface
